Griselda Blanco, known as the “Godmother of Cocaine,” was a Colombian drug lord. Her life and crimes were depicted in the Netflix miniseries “Griselda.” She was arrested in 1985 and charged with conspiring to manufacture, import, and distribute cocaine in the United States. Blanco was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years in prison. She also pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree murder, which resulted in three concurrent 20-year sentences. However, due to health issues, she was released in 2004 and deported to Medellín, Colombia. Blanco lived a quiet life until her death on September 3, 2012, when she was assassinated by an unknown gunman on a motorcycle as she left a butcher shop in Medellín.
